The treatment results of Forssa’s wastewater treatment plant are much less than the threshold values. It is important to respond to the threshold values, because the treated wastewater is discharged to Loimijoki.
- The good results are thanks to the renovated process parts, totally new aeration line and flotation. It is great to see that the wastewater treatment plants works as it should, says Econet Ltd’s project manager Jarmo Sarvi.
Helsinki-based Econet, which specialices in cleantech, carried out the extension and renovation of Forssa’s wastewater treatment plant together with local Rakennus Timo-Pekka Ltd in 2014-2016.
- Project was one of the largest projects of Econet in Finland, says Sarvi.
Forssa’s wastewater treatment plant had challenges in responding to the required threshold values before. Since, the plant was outdated, and the industrial activities of the area burdened the plant.
In December the total phosphorus was measured to be 0,085 mg/l in the outgoing water, while the new threshold value is 0,7 mg/l. Phosphorus is a nutrient, which can cause eutrophication and loss of oxygen in lakes.
In addition, the amount of solid matter was under the threshold value. The amount was 4,6 mg/l in outgoing wastewater, while the threshold value is 25 mg/l. It is crucial to remove the solid matter, so that the nature does not become polluted, and the equipment used for treating wastewater do not break.
The goal is to respond to the threshold values as well as possible, and Forssa’s wastewater treatment plant seems to respond to them well.
- It seems that the results of the wastewater treatment plant will be under the limits in every circumstances and year around, says Sarvi.
